Shelby is interested in textual resistance to boundary relationships in the late medieval romance literature of Europe. She seeks to examine points of contact which reveal the ambiguity and multidirectional influence that occurs between established cultural and national boundaries. In this analysis, she seeks to privilege the conversations of critical race scholarship in order to support conclusions about poetic form unique which occurs in texts from the borderlands.
