Course Description

This course will focus on writing as an essential component to the practice of digital storytelling. We will look at the mutations writing undergoes as it moves into digital spaces, across a variety of platforms and genres. Students will produce creative digital narrative work as they also write critically about it. The course aims to develop a broad sense for the artistic and narrative possibilities within established and emerging media: from interactive documentary to video games; from net art to digital literature; from podcasts to immersive music videos — in each instance considering the role of writing (and narrative, voice, structure, and so on) in the composition of the work and its effect on the viewer/reader/user.
