Intermediate Playwriting
Building upon either the beginning playwriting course (or previously taken creative writing classes - contact the instructor, to develop intermediate skills of playwriting in traditional dramatic structure through intensive writing exercises, play analysis, and workshop readings, culminating in the preparation, writing, and public reading of a full-length play. Students must attend the Missouri Playwrights Workshop five times over the course of the semester on Tuesday evenings. In the process, students will explore the plays of Martin McDonagh, along with Pulitzer prize-winning playwrights working in traditional dramatic structure, including Lynn Nottage, Ayad Aktar, and David Lindsey-Abaire, with many others. Be a part of Mizzou’s award-winning Writing for Performance Program, recipient of the 2017 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival’s Gold Medallion for Excellence.
