Course Description

Students will explore monstrosity as a cultural construction, and examine representation in text and image, with a focus on how the monster is a product of writing and thinking, as well as an intentional creative production in works of fiction. We will look at how the media, film, and others texts construct monstrosity as a form of radical otherness to create meaning, regulate desire, and police social norms.
