Dr. Baker-Bell (Michigan State University) will discuss the historical, cultural, linguistic and racial underpinnings of Black Language and show how anti-Black linguistic racism and white linguistic supremacy get normalized in teacher attitudes, curriculum and instruction, disciplinary discourses, and research. She discusses the impact these decisions have on Black students’ language education and their linguistic, racial, and intellectual identities, providing a way forward through Antiracist Black Language Pedagogy.
