Course Description

Novels are quests usually undertaken alone. Yet arrival ushers us into a community of fellow travelers involved in a parallel journey. In this course you will conceive, generate, edit, and structure a novel of your own. We will read and analyze four novels, all of which were published in the last five years: Min Jin Lee's Pachinko, Raven Leilani’s Luster, Sequoia Nagamatsu's How High We Go in the Dark, and Madeline Miller's Circe. But the primary focus of the class will be supporting and critiquing the novels created by students, and helping other writers refine and improve their works-in-progress by problem-solving and trouble-shooting the unique challenges of each project.
