Internship in Publishing: Persea Books (blended) and Persea Books (online)
This is a unique opportunity for a deep dive into contemporary poetry and literary publishing. Students will do essential work on behalf of the poetry series of Persea Books, an esteemed publishing house based in New York City. Persea has published some of the country's most dynamic and diverse contemporary poets, including Cameron Awkward-Rich, Molly McCully Brown, Gabrielle Calvocoressi, Randall Mann, Valencia Robin, Patrick Rosal, and Alexandra Teague.
All student work will be done on MU campus or remotely; students enrolled in on-line programs may also apply. Students completing the internship receive 3.0 course credits, as well as credit toward the English major (if applicable).
Student projects may include reading and reporting on manuscript submissions, writing press releases, doing web research for book covers and publicity outlets, proofing book galleys, assisting with author tours and promotion, and co-administering contests. Interested students will also have the opportunity to gain familiarity with some practical (and resumé-building) facets of the book publishing business, such as contracts, subsidiary rights, and copyright application.
To apply, please email a one-page cover letter, describing your interest and any relevant experience or coursework in publishing or poetry to friedg@missouri.edu. While applications received by March 7 will be prioritized, any received thereafter will be considered on a rolling basis, if space remains available.
