Adaptation of Literature for Film ENGLSH 4935 Section 02 Semester Spring Year 2024 Mary Carver Tuesday Thursday 2:00-3:15pm Course Description Cross listed with THEATR 4935-01/7935-01 This is a course that explores the adaptation of literature for film and television. Students will analyze the original novels, short stories, biographies, plays and graphic novels and then examine how they’ve been adapted to the screen. Students will gain skills in both analyzing literature and creative screenwriting with their own adaptations. They will learn to critically explore the development of narrative structures. Past courses have explored literature and films such as Moonlight, Little Women, Orange is the New Black, The Maid, Othello, Bridgerton, and Malcom X.
