Course Description

This semester, we will focus on the literature of transformation, from science fiction and fantasy to realistic literary representations of cultural and political shifts. Texts will include: Cosmicomics by Italo Calvino, the play Father Comes Home from the Wars by Suzan-Lori Parks, And I Do Not Forgive You by Amber Sparks, The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, and the yet-to-be-determined winner of the Maya Angelou Prize in Fiction.  You will write a number of individual and collaborative stories, participate in small group and full class workshops, write an expanded story based on one of your earlier exercises, and produce a revision of that story as your final project.
