Course Description
This course will focus on reading twentieth century literature through a postcolonial and/or transnational lens. We will focus on four novels: Jane Eyre, Wide Sargasso Sea, White is for Witching, and Nervous Conditions. You will be learning about the historical context for these novels, as well as digging into contemporary issues like immigration, gender, nationality and religion. This course is diversity intensive and will explore what it means to live in a "global village" where there is not one way of seeing the world.
This course does not count towards the graduate degree in English for students receiving assistantships but is open to self-funded English MA students with the Director of Graduate Study’s approval.
