Studies in Critical Theory: Decolonial Theory
This course engages in the study of decolonial critical thought and decolonization as a resistance movement. Across local and global contexts, we will consider key concepts in Indigenous and decolonial studies, such as sovereignty, nationhood, systems of power, land and environment, cultural memory, representation, mapping, borders, language and literacy, food and water, topics of identity (i.e. race, gender, sexuality, class), Indigenization, un-settling settler colonialism, present realities and priorities, re-framing histories, and imagining futurities. Assignments include experiential and active learning activities, weekly reading responses, collaborative projects, and a presentation.
