Course Description
In ENG 4050/7050, we will survey global rhetorical traditions to better understand the histories of rhetoric across time, space, societies, and discourses. This course considers rhetorical theories and practices from a geohistorical orientation, moving across continents and communities from ancient times to the present day. We will study rhetorical meaning-making through written, oratory, and material forms of storytelling, cartography, place-making, policy-making, artworks, and earthworks. Assignments and activities may include: reading and responding to course texts; experiential learning; a collaborative historiography project; and a self-designed final project.
Prerequisites: ENGLSH 1000 and sophomore standing.
