Course Description

(Cross-listed with DST_VS 3880W)

Writing and Theory for Digital Media focuses on writing as an essential component of digital storytelling. Students will observe how writing mutates as it moves into digital spaces, across a variety of platforms and genres. Students will produce their own digital narratives, in addition to writing critically about digital narratives presented in the class. The course aims to develop a broad sense for the artistic and narrative possibilities within established and emerging digital media, including interactive journalism, video games, hypertext literature, net art, and video essays (among others), in each instance considering the role of writing (narrative, voice, structure, and so on) in the composition of the work and its effect on the viewer/reader/user.
