Creative Writing: Intermediate Nonfiction Prose
Creative Writing: Intermediate Nonfiction Prose
Course description: This intermediate nonfiction prose workshop will offer writers a space to investigate their selves and their voices as they burrow into the unique interests that link their own personal narratives to the broader contexts they exist within. We will cultivate a trusting, attentive environment where students can contemplate their own forms of embodiment, their chosen and biological family histories, and their connections to the natural world all of which will illuminate new facets of their own narratives. Writers will experiment with form and content inspired both by contemporary nonfiction prose read throughout the semester and generative, playful writing exercises. Such exercises and experimentation will offer space to consider questions such as : Who am I as an essayist? As a nonfiction writer? As an in-between writer? What writers am I in conversation with? What do I have to say as a writer and how am I saying it?
