This course introduces students to the basics of film aesthetics, including terms such as mise-en-scène, cinematography, editing, film narrative, film sound, film authorship, and genre. Balancing our focus on technical elements with broader frameworks, we will also consider various critical, theoretical, ideological, and historical approaches to film studies as well as to the practice of writing about film.
