In this introduction to writing poetry, we will discover how poems think, feel, sound, speak and move to affect readers, and will use that knowledge to write poems of our own. We will read poems by various authors such as Yusef Komunyakaa, Brigit Pegeen Kelly, Paige Lewis, Aimee Nezhukumatathil and others. We will also read about craft topics such as image, figurative language, sound, rhythm and musicality, and form. We will engage in various writing exercises, discussions, and workshop throughout the semester, learning how to collaborate and provide feedback on each other’s work. Let’s practice playing with language and grow as writers together this semester!
