Course Description

In this course, we will focus on community-oriented engagement with poetry as both writers and readers. We will develop our understanding of poetry craft by reading and discussing different poets, theorists, and thinkers, ultimately collecting the tools necessary to analyze poetry in a productive and insightful manner. We’ll also spend time workshopping our own poetry using a generative rather than corrective approach. This means that we’ll use our insights from our reading to celebrate our most engaging impulses as writers and work towards an informed, passionate understanding of our writing processes. There will be time in class to read, write, and discuss, and in doing so we will stive to become more practiced students of poetry who are committed to forming and supporting literary community.
