Course Description

The short story is a special beast, and in this class, we will get to know that beast--pet his haunches and stare straight into his beady eyes. In less metaphorical terms, we will study a wide range of craft elements, including character, point of view, pace, plot, and others. We will read short stories from a diverse range of authors and will write fiction of our own. By the conclusion of this generative class, you will have written and shared lots of new material.

As celebrated writer George Saunders puts it, “When you read a short story, you come out a little more aware and a little more in love with the world around you.” So, let's get to reading and writing; the world could certainly use a little more love!
