Fiction covers a wide array of experiences, from realistic accounts of everyday experiences to entire worlds built of one’s own mind and creativity.  While we each have our preferences as to the kinds of fiction we read and write, this course will examine fiction by asking students to read and write extensively within this genre.  Students will be asked to read short stories written by a variety of writers and submit their own stories for workshop discussions.  Additional class assignments will include revising student work and learning how to critically discuss the writing of their peers in addition to class assignments designed to build understanding of fiction craft and technique.
