The purpose of this course is to offer students the opportunity to learn more about how to write. How we’ll do that:

• Students will read essays loosely grouped by purpose (personal, expository, argumentative).
• Students will do some extra reading about reading and writing—about how to read like a writer and about strategies for coming up with ideas, how to structure pieces of writing, how to do research--how to use the different tools that writers use to reflect, explain, persuade, and entertain.
• Students will write three essays, each going through a number of stages to get to a final product, and they will adapt one of those three to a different medium.

The idea is that, in the end, students will be better equipped to write in their courses and in any other setting.
