Introduction to Graduate Study (1-credit course)

This one-credit course introduces incoming graduate students in English to graduate study in general and at the University of Missouri specifically. Various topics will be covered, such as: expectations for graduate school; using library resources; program requirements; writing seminar papers; using special collections; preparing for comprehensive exams; proposing and presenting conference papers; drafting a thesis proposal; academic freedom; publishing; and careers. Readings for these topics will be brief and there will be an opportunity to adjust our schedule depending on the preferences of those enrolled.
