Creative Writing: Advanced Nonfiction Prose: The Untamed and the Unseen

Students will experiment with various subgenres and forms of creative nonfiction prose—long form narratives; hybrid and flash texts; memoirs; essay collections—that investigate the themes of the untamed and the unseen. We will be discussing and writing pieces about plants and animals, wild and natural spaces, and the mysteries of the human body. Some of the authors we’ll be reading: Joy Williams, Terry Tempest Williams, Arthur W. Frank, Wendell Barry, Kathleen Norris, Sarah Manguso, Terence McKenna, Edward Abbey, Jiddu Krishnamurti.
