Course Description

Cross listed with DST_VS 3880W-02

This course will focus on writing as an essential component of digital storytelling. We will look at the mutations writing undergoes as it moves into digital spaces, across a variety of platforms and genres. Students will produce their own digital narratives, in addition to writing critically about digital narratives studied in class. The course aims to develop a broad sense for the artistic and narrative possibilities within established and emerging media, including interactive journalism, video games, hypertext literature, net art, and video essays (among others) — in each instance considering the role of writing (narrative, voice, structure, and so on) in the composition of the work and its effect on the viewer/reader/user.
