Course Description

In this intermediate poetry workshop, we will work to hone our craft and develop our voices as poets. With a spirit of play and experimentation, we will explore a variety of poetic forms, styles, and possibilities, with the goal of composing new work. Through craft readings, as well as readings of three contemporary monograph poetry collections (published between 2025-2026), we will learn poetic traditions as well as emerging trends in contemporary poetry. Students will read authors such as Gabrielle Calvocoressi, Carolina Ebeid, and Aimee Nezhukumatathil, among others. In addition to various writing, reading, and reflective activities, students will submit poems to workshop throughout the semester, culminating in a final creative project.
