Creative Writing: Intermediate Poetry
Writing can feel like a lonely business. But what if maybe it’s not? Or doesn’t have to be? In this intermediate poetry workshop, we will experiment with this possibility: that poetry can create and participate in conversations and collaborations with other poets, with other arts and artists, musicians, filmmakers, dancers, photographers, stories and storytellers, with friends and family members, and with each other. We will take on familiar forms – the fairy tale, the myth, the letter, the collage – dream up our own new ones, and write in collaboration with those we love and admire, past or present. Along the way we will practice the poetics of language, sound, syntax, and form, and read and think deeply about contemporary poetry and each other's writing. Some poets we will turn to for inspiration include Victoria Chang, Terrance Hayes, Mary Ruefle, and Ross Gay, among others.
