Creative Writing: Intermediate Fiction
This course aims to provide a space for writers to create, share, and workshop their short fiction.
Students will discuss a range of craft elements in writing, with a specific focus on how the refinement and integration of these elements in your own creative work can help to generate stories that are structurally sound, reflective of your specific style, and enlivened by well-developed characters, plot, conflict, themes, and other literary essentials. Short stories as an art form will be emphasized through our pursuit of nurturing emotions within readers. We will seek to foster an appreciation of how the concepts of writing as ‘craft’ and writing as ‘art’ work in tandem with each other to shape stories that are well-constructed, poignant, and emotionally effective.
Students working in all genres of fiction (fantasy, dystopian, horror, science fiction, realism, romance, etc.) are welcome
