Course Description

Baseball is commonly hailed as the most literary of sports. Over the past century, it has been represented in countless novels, stories, poems, and plays  This on-line, eight-week course is a survey of literature about baseball. Through reading assorted literary works in a variety of genres, we will consider why baseball has been a captivating muse for such a variety of American writers.

Authors we may read  include Don DeLillo, Martín Espada, B. H. Fairchild, Linda Gregerson, Donald Hall, Denis Johnson, Yusef Komunyakaa, Thomas Lux, Bernard Malamud, Gail Mazur, Emily Nemens, Wilfred Santiago, August Wilson, and Tobias Wolff.
