Course Description

Professional Writing will provide students with the skills to effectively communicate in the workplace. This course is applicable to all majors, and we will explore and practice various styles and genres of writing used in professional settings. Course work will adapt to the interests and needs of students to support their professional ambitions beyond graduation. Our class will learn about the many genres of professional writing, including resumes and curriculum vitae, cover letters, business reports, presentations, proposals, newsletters, exceptional emails, strategic socials usage and more styles of decisive and active communication. We will also learn about rhetorical strategies of great communication, including the practice and identification of tone, audience, purpose, and context across multiple genres of writing. By the end of the course, students will feel empowered to meet future interviews and first careers, with confidence in their ability to communicate their ideas and knowledge.
