This semester, we will experiment with a variety of forms and styles from realism to science fiction and fantasy. Students will write 3-4 formal exercises based on the readings, then choose one of these short pieces to expand into a full-length short story. We will move from small group critiques to full-class workshops. The class will also involve frequent group work and collaboration. Readings may include fiction by Ted Chaing, Danielle Evans, Sarah Pinsker, George Saunders, and Bryan Washington.
