Course Description

In this course, Creative Writing: Introduction to Fiction, students will learn to recognize and implement the aspects of scene and the elements of story-telling. The focus of this course will be acquiring the basic tools and core vocabulary of fiction-writing. This course will include guided writing exercises, for which students will receive feedback from the instructor, and move toward a peer workshop, in which students deliver constructive criticism of one another’s work with the instructor as facilitator and guide. The course will utilize a fiction-writing textbook supplemented by other examples of contemporary fiction.

In addition to lectures, discussions, and workshops, students may be required to take quizzes or exams to gauge their knowledge of fiction-writing methods and vocabulary, and/or students may be required to submit a writing portfolio at the end of the semester.
