Introduction to Fiction is an introductory writing workshop focused on the fictional short story. In this course, we will read and discuss short stories across a variety of genres and styles. Students will also submit their own writing for critique and discussion. The course aims to develop fiction writing skills through practice and by analyzing and discussing the work of others. Short writing exercises will give students the opportunity to explore their writing and test out different voices, while workshop will present a chance to craft, edit, and perfect student stories with the goal of publication. To that end, this class will also teach students how to submit work to literary journals.
