In this class, we will build upon the basic concepts of fiction covered in Introduction to Fiction, advance our knowledge of these fundamentals, and create our own vocabulary for how we write, appreciate, and critique fiction. We will also examine theory and craft essays written by successful writers and apply their experience to our work. We will continue to analyze classic and contemporary works, apply form and theory to short stories, flash fiction, hybrid works, and novel excerpts, and experiment with re-envisioning our own stories as new mediums. This class will also explore publishing avenues and emerging forms of literary journalism. Intermediate Fiction has a required workshop component.
