Research and teaching areas:
My focus here is Creative Nonfiction.
I'm in the process of editing my
memoir and getting ready to start
researching for my dissertation.
Lately, I've been interested in medical
narratives and my dissertation will
combine my personal narrative and
literary journalism to create a narrative
of the heart. The biological heart,
not the metaphorical one.

Alexis Katchuk

I grew up in rural upstate New York (meaning that I did not grow up in New York City) before moving to Pennsylvania for college. Then I realized I had studied the wrong thing and went back for another degree before moving to DC to devote myself to writing. If I could have majored in research - without the pressure of having to write something based on that research - I would have done so, as I find research to be the best form of procrastination.
