Prof. Devoney Looser, Catherine P. Middlebush Chair of English, specializes in British women's writings of the Restoration, eighteenth, and early nineteenth centuries, and the history of the novel. Her most recent book, Women Writers and Old Age in Great Britain, 1750-1850, was published by Johns Hopkins UP (2008). She previously published British Women Writers and the Writing of History, 1670-1820 (Johns Hopkins, 2000; paperback, 2005), which was named a Choice Outstanding Academic Title. She is the editor of Jane Austen and Discourses of Feminism (Palgrave Macmillan, 1995) and co-editor of Generations: Academic Feminists in Dialogue (U of Minnesota P, 1997). A co-editor of the Journal for Early Modern Cultural Studies, she is past president of the Midwest Modern Language Association.
